Google Rebrands Bard as Gemini, Apple Vision Pro, HuggingFace Assistants and More

Published 3 months ago • 5 min read

Hello Reader,

Welcome to Visually AI!

There was a lot of generative AI news this week, and I expect it to continue for the next several months.

🔮AI Spotlight

🥽Apple Vision Pro

The first Apple Vision Pro virtual reality headset orders were filled this week for many excited users (I decided to hold on to a few thousand dollars, for now).

In case you forgot or don’t know all the things it can do, you can read about it here.

Available Vision Pro apps include:

  • Zoom
  • Slack
  • TikTok
  • Disney+
  • Discovery+
  • Cisco Webex
  • Microsoft 365
  • Candy Crush Saga
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • NBA 2K23 Arcade Edition

Google

Google was quite busy this week with several announcements, including rebranding Bard to Gemini:

You can now generate images with Gemini during chats, similar to Microsoft Copilot (formerly known as Bing Chat) and ChatGPT with DALL•E.

Google: AI Test Kitchen

Google's AI Test Kitchen is a platform where users can experiment with AI and creativity.

It offers three main tools: ImageFX, TextFX, and MusicFX

Each is designed to transform text into different forms of content - images, enhanced text, and music respectively.

You can find all three tools here: Google AI Test Kitchen

ImageFX

ImageFX lets you experiment with different prompt ideas using "expressive chips" to iterate concepts and easily modify the generated images, while you work. (link)

You can change your prompt and test it immediately by choosing from the dropdown selections or the suggestions below the prompt screen.

Images generate quickly so you can see your results:

ImageFX isn't the same as Google Bard/Gemini image generation.

The quality doesn't compare with most image generators - this is a tool to help you fine-tune prompts and experiment with different keywords and elements to learn how to build prompts.

Prompt: Hummingbird, neon cubism

I added two suggested keywords: chiaroscuro and charcoal

I added more suggested keywords: dynamic and 35 mm film

TextFX is an AI-powered language tool designed to supercharge your writing process.

TextFX is one of my favorite generative text tools because it features unique and creative ways to use expressive language. (link)

Tools include:

  • Alliteration
  • Acronym
  • Explode
  • Fuse
  • POV

MusicFX

MusicFX is a tool that brings your musical ideas to life.

It generates up to 70 seconds of music and sound loops with the ability to try different prompts with expressive chips. (link)

By describing a musical idea in text, MusicFX can generate a piece of music that sounds like the details you enter. You can use it to create a variety of short musical clips based on your simple text description.

How I used it:

I chose a video I generated on Deforum Studio of a samurai and asked the Music Prompt Generator GPT in ChatGPT:

Please write a music text prompt to generate epic cinematic music for a traditional samurai scene preparing for battle

The response was too long:

Epic cinematic music that encapsulates the essence of a traditional samurai scene preparing for battle. This composition should be characterized by a grand orchestral arrangement featuring thunderous taiko drums, dramatic strings, and a powerful shakuhachi flute leading the melody. The music should evoke the tension, honor, and determination inherent in the samurai ethos, blending traditional Japanese musical elements with epic cinematic soundscapes to create a sense of impending battle and heroic resolve. Imagine the samurai donning their armor, the quiet before the storm, and the strategic anticipation of the conflict ahead.

I followed up with this request to the GPT:

Please write the specific sounds necessary for this music, with names of the instruments and sounds that should be included, for a simple text prompt of the music described above, in less than 100 characters

The result was concise:

Taiko, shakuhachi, strings, brass, koto, wind chimes

You can see the process on MusicFX and listen to the results, here:

Unfortunately, ImageFX, MusicFX, and TextFX are currently only available in the U.S., Australia, Kenya, and New Zealand, according to Google AI Test Kitchen's frequently asked questions (FAQ).

🤗HuggingFace

HuggingFace launched a free ChatGPT alternative tool to build AI assistants, similar to GPTs in OpenAI’s GPT Store.

You can choose between open-source models available on HuggingFace including Mixtral, Claude, and CodeLlama.

Why should you care?

HuggingFace offers these tools for free, compared to paying $20 per month for ChatGPT Plus. It's a great alternative with low risk.
